OVERSEAS PROJECTS
United States
Fast facts
- Linc Energy has over 296,000 acres of coal lease holdings in the United States across the states of Alaska, Montana, North Dakota, and Wyoming.
- These coal leases are located in well known energy producing regions, being the Cook Inlet, Powder River and Williston Basins.
- Linc Energy is well placed to enter the United States clean energy market and establish its UCG technology. Four wholly owned subsidiaries have been founded to assist Linc Energy’s future operations in the United States: Linc Energy (Alaska), Linc Energy (Montana), Linc Energy (Operations), and Linc Energy (Wyoming).
Linc Energy has acquired over 296,000 acres of United States coal leases across the states of Alaska, Montana, North Dakota, and Wyoming and has opened offices in Casper, Wyoming. An office will soon open in Denver, Colorado.
Leases located in Alaska’s Cook Inlet are suitable for traditional oil and gas, with potential access to about 18 billion tonnes of coal. It is Linc Energy’s intention to conduct an exploration program on the Alaskan Cook Inlet leases to pursue a potential natural gas revenue opportunity.
Site selection and permitting processes are underway to support a UCG pilot program in the Powder River Basin. This program is expected for completion in mid-to-late 2011.
Vietnam
Fast facts
- Linc Energy entered into a business cooperation contract with Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (VINACOMIN) and Japan’s Marubeni Corporation to deliver a trial Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) project in Vietnam’s Red River Delta region.
- Known as the Tonkin Project, a works contract and civil works contract has been established for Linc Energy to design, construct and operate the trial UCG project.
- It is anticipated on successful completion of the project, a commercial UCG project will progress to provide power generation to over six million Vietnamese households.
Linc Energy entered into a business cooperation contract with Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (VINACOMIN) and Japan’s Marubeni Corporation to undertake a trial UCG project in the Red River Delta region in Vietnam.
The three parties have signed the works and civil works contracts for Stage 1 of the trial UCG project planned for the Red River Delta about 60 kilometres south-east of Hanoi. The trial is designed to confirm that coal in the region is suitable for gasification using Linc Energy’s UCG technology.
Work continues on the development of the project, although the pace has been slower than expected due to unforeseen delays with regulatory and investment licence approvals.
Project partners remain committed to the successful completion of Stage 1 of the project, encouraged by the burgeoning demand for electricity, which is the strategic reason for pursuing UCG in Vietnam. Linc Energy continues to persevere to provide information and support its project partners through the approvals process.
Apart from the specific objectives of the Tonkin Project, this will provide Linc Energy with another opportunity to test its technological and operational capability in a different and challenging location.
