ABOUT SAPEX
SAPEX Limited (SAPEX) was formed in 2000 as a private company and listed as a public company on the Australian Securities Exchange on 25 May 2007.
The company objective was to become a significant energy producer through the exploration, discovery and development of oil and coal seam gas (CSG) in the under-explored Permian sediments of the Arckaringa Basin and also evaluate the commercial potential of large coal resources within the Basin.
After reaching agreement with Native Title claimants and titleholders in the Arckaringa Basin region in less than three months, on 3 October 2006 SAPEX was granted seven Petroleum Exploration Licences (PEL's) by the Department of Primary Industries and Resources of South Australia (PIRSA) covering some 65,000km² - essentially the entire prospective area of the Arckaringa Basin in Central South Australia. Mineral Exploration Licence (EL) 3325 and EL 3326 were also granted in the Arckaringa Basin (see tenement map below).
SAPEX was also granted PEL120 which covers Tertiary Basins extending north of Adelaide including the Northern St Vincent and Walloway Basins, which have CSG potential.
SAPEX's corporate goals were to conduct:
- exploration for conventional oil and gas in the PEL tenements covering the Arckaringa Basin where modern exploration to date has been very limited;
- thorough appraisal of the CSG potential within the Arckaringa Basin; and
- early appraisal of the CSG potential of coal seams identified in PEL120, strategically close to Adelaide.
During 2008, SAPEX applied for two additional Mineral ELs within the Arckaringa Basin and was granted EL 4147 and EL 4148 in the Northern St Vincent Basin and Walloway Basin respectively.
As of 15 October 2008, SAPEX Limited merged with Linc Energy Ltd and all corporate and operational aspects have now been integrated.
SAPEX currently holds 8 Petroleum Exploration Licences (PELs 117, 118, 119, 120, 121, 122, 123, 124) and 4 Mineral Exploration Licences (ELs 3325, 3326, 4147, 4148).
