United States

The emerging clean coal sector in the United States is a critical market for Linc Energy to establish its UCG and GTL technologies. Continuing to pursue its entrance into the United States, Linc Energy recently acquired additional coal leases in North America and has now established an office in Casper, Wyoming to support its proposed operations. A head office will soon open in Denver, Colorado.

Recent acquisitions bring Linc Energy’s total lease holdings in the United States to over 296,000 acres. The leases are located in the Cook Inlet Basin, Alaska, and the Powder River and Williston Basins across the states of Wyoming, Montana and North Dakota.

Alaska

Linc Energy has signed an agreement to acquire 123,000 acres of traditional oil and gas leases in Alaska’s Cook Inlet Basin from GeoPetro Alaska LLC. The Cook Inlet Basin is abundant in coal resources and contains numerous oil and gas pipelines feeding the State’s energy needs.

This acquisition provides Linc Energy with a strategic entry point into Alaska for both traditional oil and gas revenue opportunities, as well as UCG. It is anticipated the lease area acquired contains about 18 billion tonnes in coal deposits, of which a large percentage may be suitable for UCG.

Montana, North Dakota and Wyoming

Linc Energy has now acquired a total of 173,327 acres of coal leases in the Powder River and Williston Basins covering the states of Montana, North Dakota and Wyoming. These were purchased from GasTech Inc. and related company, Wold Oil Inc.

A central hub in the United States energy system, Wyoming is the largest coal producing area with about 45 per cent of the nation’s coal produced from current surface mines. Coal in the Powder River Basin is considered sub-bituminous and potentially suitable for UCG. Seams range from six to 15 metres in thickness, at depths in excess of 150 metres.

Linc Energy is now planning for its first UCG pilot program in the United States to secure the commercial use of UCG to GTL technologies for cleaner energy solutions.
